چکیده

UVs are important ingredients in common cosmetic products (e.g., sunscreens, hairsprays, soap). After their use, they can enter the aquatic ecosystem and negatively affect non-target organisms. The aim of our study was to evaluate acute embryotoxicity selected organic 2-phenylbenzimidazole-5-sulfonic acid (PBSA), ethylhexyl methoxycinnamate (EHMC), octocrylene (OC), 4-methylbenzylidene camphor (4-MBC) benzophenone-3 (BP-3). chemicals were tested both as a single substance mixtures. types mixtures chosen follows: combination OC 4-MBC; PBSA, EHMC BP-3 all five UV filters. evaluated using modified method Fish Embryo Acute Toxicity Test-OECD guideline 236 zebrafish (Danio rerio) suitable fish model organism. toxic effects studied by assessing mortality, hatching occurrence malformations at 24, 48, 72 96 h post fertilization. obtained results indicate that especially mixture 4-MBC presents potential risk for due significant increase which 41.7% experimental group exposed 10 ?g/L Based on results, most effected sub-lethal endpoints malformation edema pericard, bent spine, yolk edema), but with no statistically effect. These differ within groups mixtures, suggesting interaction these substances when together.

Lagos lagoon sediment organic extracts and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons induce embryotoxic, teratogenic and genotoxic effects in Danio rerio (zebrafish) embryos

An expansion of anthropogenic activity around Lagos lagoon, Nigeria, has raised concerns over increasing contaminants entering the lagoon's ecosystem. The embryotoxicity, teratogenicity and genotoxicity of sediment organic extracts from four sampling zones around Lagos lagoon, Ilaje, Iddo, Atlas Cove and Apapa, as well as the dominant polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) identified in water ...

Danio Rerio, the Zebrafish

The zebrafish has long been a favourite model for the study of vertebrate development. Here we provide an overview of the current state of knowledge and resources for the study of this fish, with comments on the future direction of zebrafish genomics from Professor Mark Fishman and Dr Stephen Wilson.

BIOLOGY OF ZEBRAFISH, Danio rerio

Zebrafish, Danio rerio (Hamilton), is one of the most important vertebrate model organism in genetics, developmental biology, neurophysiology and biomedicine (Rubinstein, 2003; Amsterdam and Hopkins, 2006). It is a small, robust fish, so large numbers can be kept easily and cheaply in the laboratory, where it breeds all year round. Development is rapid, with precursors to all major organs devel...

Estrogenic and toxic effects of methoxychlor on zebrafish (Danio rerio).

Although zebrafish (Danio rerio) have been suggested as a good candidate for screening potential endocrine disruptors, little information is available on the effects of weak estrogens on this species. We investigated the sensitivity of different life stages of zebrafish toward toxic and estrogenic properties of methoxychlor (MXC). Short-term tests with adults resulted in a sex-specific 96-h let...

Inhibitory Avoidance Learning in Zebrafish (Danio rerio)

The zebrafish (Danio rerio) is increasingly being used as model in behavioural [1,2], neurobiological and genetic research [3]. Underlying reasons are high genetic homology to humans [4] and the many advantages over the use of rodents, such as low cost, easy handling, short reproduction cycle and high fecundity. Furthermore, its genome [5], transcriptome [6] and proteome [7] are well described,...
